BJFR uses the Crossmark service provided by Crossref to inform readers about the current status of published articles and to communicate important post-publication updates. Crossmark enables readers to verify whether they are accessing the most current and authoritative version of an article and provides information about any corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, or other editorial updates. The journal encourages readers, authors, reviewers, librarians, indexing services, and research institutions to consult the Crossmark record whenever using or citing published articles.

Purpose of Crossmark
The primary purpose of Crossmark is to provide a standardized mechanism for communicating the publication status of scholarly articles. Through Crossmark, BJFR aims to:
- maintain the integrity of the scientific record;
- provide readers with the latest version of published articles;
- notify users of important editorial updates;
- improve transparency in scholarly publishing;
- support responsible citation practices;
- facilitate long-term digital preservation;
- strengthen confidence in published research; and
- promote best practices in scientific communication.
Crossmark does not evaluate the scientific quality of an article. Instead, it provides information about whether the published record has changed after publication.
Scope of the policy
This Crossmark Policy applies to all scholarly content published by BJFR that has been assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and registered with Crossref.
The policy applies to, but is not limited to:
- original research articles;
- review articles;
- short communications;
- technical notes;
- methodological papers;
- editorials;
- perspectives;
- case studies; and
- other article types published by the journal.
Where Crossmark is implemented, each eligible article will display the Crossmark logo or associated metadata indicating its publication status.
Publication status information
Crossmark enables readers to determine whether an article remains the current version of record or has been updated after publication. Possible publication status information includes:
- Current document;
- Correction issued;
- Corrigendum published;
- Erratum published;
- Addendum published;
- Expression of Concern issued;
- Retraction published;
- Withdrawal notice;
- Republication;
- Metadata update; or
- Other editorial notifications affecting the publication record.
Readers are encouraged to consult the Crossmark status before citing or relying upon published research.
Types of updates communicated through Crossmark
BJFR uses Crossmark to notify readers of significant post-publication changes.
Corrections
Corrections may be issued when errors are identified that affect the accuracy or clarity of a published article but do not invalidate its scientific findings. Correction notices are permanently linked to the original article.
Corrigenda
Corrigenda are published when authors identify errors in their own published work that require formal correction.
Errata
Errata are issued to correct errors introduced during the editorial, production, or publication process.
Addenda
An addendum may be published when important information becomes available after publication that enhances, clarifies, or supplements the original article without altering its principal conclusions.
Expressions of concern
Where substantial concerns arise regarding the integrity or reliability of a published article and an investigation is ongoing, BJFR may issue an Expression of Concern to alert readers while maintaining due process.
Retractions
Retractions are issued where reliable evidence demonstrates that an article contains major errors or serious breaches of publication ethics, including plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated or falsified data, unethical research, or compromised peer review.
Retraction notices remain permanently linked to the original article.
Metadata maintained through Crossmark
In addition to publication status information, BJFR may maintain publication metadata through Crossmark where appropriate. Metadata may include:
- publication date;
- DOI;
- article title;
- author information;
- ORCID identifiers where available;
- funding information;
- license information;
- copyright status;
- Crossref registration details;
- publication history;
- corrections and updates;
- clinical trial registration information where applicable; and
- other metadata supported by Crossref.
Providing accurate metadata improves discoverability, indexing, citation accuracy, and interoperability with scholarly databases.
Responsibilities
Authors
Authors are expected to notify the Editorial Office promptly if they discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work.
Authors should cooperate fully with the journal during investigations and provide any information necessary to determine whether an update to the publication record is required.
Editors
Editors are responsible for evaluating reported concerns objectively and determining whether corrections, retractions, or other post-publication notices are warranted.
Editorial decisions regarding Crossmark updates are made in accordance with the journal’s Correction and Retraction Policy and Publication Ethics Policy.
Publisher
The Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI), as the publisher of BJFR, supports the maintenance of accurate publication metadata and works with Crossref to ensure that article status information is updated whenever required.
Reader guidance
Readers should regard the version identified through Crossmark as the authoritative version of record. Before citing, distributing, or relying upon an article, readers are encouraged to verify whether any post-publication updates have been issued.
