The Bangladesh Journal of Fisheries Research (BJFR) is committed to promoting the unrestricted dissemination of high-quality scientific knowledge without imposing financial barriers on authors. As part of this commitment, BJFR does not charge any Article Processing Charge (APC) for the submission, peer review, editorial processing, acceptance, publication, or online hosting of manuscripts. Authors can publish their research in the journal completely free of charge.
BJFR is published by the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI), an autonomous government research institution under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The journal is supported through government funding and institutional resources, allowing it to operate without relying on APCs or other publication fees. This funding model reflects the journal’s mission to facilitate equitable access to scholarly publishing and to encourage the dissemination of research findings for the benefit of the scientific community, policymakers, practitioners, and society.
The journal believes that scientific publishing should be based solely on the quality, originality, scientific merit, and ethical standards of submitted manuscripts rather than the financial capacity of authors or their institutions. Consequently, editorial decisions are made independently of any financial considerations. Every manuscript submitted to BJFR undergoes editorial assessment and peer review according to the journal’s established editorial policies and publication ethics, regardless of the authors’ nationality, institutional affiliation, funding status, or economic background. BJFR does not charge authors for any of the following services:
- Manuscript submission.
- Initial editorial assessment.
- Peer review.
- Editorial processing.
- Technical editing.
- Copyediting performed by the journal, where applicable.
- Typesetting and layout preparation.
- Assignment of publication details.
- Online publication.
- Website hosting and dissemination.
- Long-term archiving and preservation of published articles.
- Publication of corrections, corrigenda, or errata when required by the journal.
Similarly, the journal does not impose separate fees for color figures, supplementary materials, tables, photographs, multimedia files, or reasonable manuscript length, provided that these materials comply with the journal’s submission guidelines and are scientifically justified.
Although BJFR does not charge APCs, authors remain responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts meet the journal’s standards for scientific quality, ethical compliance, language, formatting, and completeness before submission. The absence of publication fees does not influence the rigor of the editorial or peer-review process, and acceptance is never guaranteed.
The journal also emphasizes that it does not offer expedited review, fast-track publication, priority processing, or guaranteed acceptance in exchange for payment. Since no publication fees are collected, no author or institution may obtain preferential editorial treatment through financial means. All submissions are evaluated fairly and independently according to their academic merit and compliance with the journal’s editorial policies.
Authors should be cautious of fraudulent emails or individuals claiming to represent BJFR while requesting publication fees, processing charges, or other payments. The journal never requests APCs or publication payments from authors. Any communication requesting payment while claiming to act on behalf of BJFR should be treated as unauthorized and reported immediately to the journal’s Editorial Office.
Should the journal’s funding model or publication fee policy change in the future, any such change will be approved by the publisher, clearly communicated on the official journal website, and will apply only to future submissions from the announced effective date. Previously submitted manuscripts will continue to be handled according to the policy in effect at the time of submission unless otherwise stated.
Through its no-APC publishing model, BJFR seeks to remove financial barriers to scientific communication, promote inclusiveness in scholarly publishing, encourage submissions from researchers worldwide, and support the dissemination of high-quality fisheries and aquatic science research for the benefit of the global scientific community. The journal remains committed to providing a fair, transparent, high-quality, and fully accessible publishing platform where editorial decisions are based exclusively on scientific excellence and research integrity rather than authors’ ability to pay.
