National Recognition
BFRI has received national and international recognition for its contributions to fisheries science and research.
Notably, the institute was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2020, one of Bangladesh's highest civilian honors, in recognition of its outstanding contributions to scientific research and national development.
History of BJFR
The Bangladesh Journal of Fisheries Research (BJFR) was established in 1997 to provide a dedicated platform for scientific communication in fisheries and aquatic sciences.
Prior to its establishment, fisheries research outputs in Bangladesh were often scattered among institutional reports and international journals. BJFR was created to consolidate national research efforts and provide a specialized outlet for fisheries-related scientific publications.
Initially, the journal published primarily research conducted within BFRI. Over time, it expanded to include contributions from researchers, universities, and international collaborators.
For many years, BJFR operated as a traditional print journal with manual submission and peer-review processes while maintaining rigorous editorial standards.
Digital Transformation
With the rapid advancement of scholarly communication technologies, BJFR has progressively modernized its publishing workflow.
A significant milestone was achieved in June 2026, when BJFR transitioned to a fully online publication system.
The new digital platform offers:
- Online Manuscript Submission
- Electronic Peer Review
- Faster Publication Timelines
- Global Accessibility
- Integration with Indexing and Citation Systems
- Improved Discoverability of Published Research
This transformation reflects BJFR's commitment to aligning with international publishing standards and expanding its global reach.
